J. Paulding Edwards laid out the San Carlos Flying Field during the First World War on ground north of Cordilleras Creek, well inland of the present runway. The airport shifted to its current spot on the bay margin in the late 1940s while the Bayshore was still a two lane road. San Mateo County bought it from a yacht harbour company in 1964 for 990,000 dollars and it has been a public field ever since.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
