Salina, the camp Kansas miners named after home
1874
Fourmile Canyon, Boulder County, Colorado
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
A party of men from Salina, Kansas made the first permanent camp here in the spring of 1874 after finding tellurium ore, and named it for the town they had left. Mules and wagons were the only way in until the narrow gauge line that became the Switzerland Trail reached the canyon in the early 1880s. The one-room schoolhouse finished in 1886 and the church known as the Little Church in the Pines are both still standing, at the junction of Fourmile Canyon and Gold Run.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
