Sugarloaf, where the gold came locked inside tellurium

The name sat on a mining claim near Yellow Pine in the late 1860s before it spread to the mountain and the whole district around it. The gold here was not the kind a pan catches: it was bound up in tellurium minerals such as sylvanite and petzite, so the rock had to be hauled out and treated rather than washed. Counted with neighbouring Gold Hill, this district produced more gold than any other in Boulder County. One telluride found in these veins, coloradoite, is named for the state.
