1875

The monastery opened in 1869 and the church was finished in 1875, filling the blocks between 18th and 21st Streets on Summit Avenue. For a long stretch it was the largest Roman Catholic church in the county, and its walls carried work by the muralist Hildreth Meiere until rain got into them. It is the only Union City property on the National Register of Historic Places. A Presbyterian congregation now worships in the church while housing and a school occupy part of the old grounds.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
