The Presbyterian congregation on Rockville Pike gave the surrounding crossroads its name in the 1870s and the name spread to everything that grew up around it. The complex sits just inside the Capital Beltway and has been on the National Register since 1977. One of the largest office districts in Maryland is named after a small country church.
