The American Real Estate Company laid out Park Hill on the bluff above South Broadway in 1888, one of the first planned communities in the New York suburbs. Buyers still had to get up the hill from the railroad, so the company built an inclined railway whose single car carried ten passengers up a 107 foot climb at roughly forty degrees. It opened in 1894 and ran until 1937. Its two station houses are private homes today.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
