Orange Park is planted as a winter orange colony
1877
Orange Park, Florida

A land company laid the town out in 1877 on an old plantation tract and sold northern buyers a house lot with an orange grove attached. The groves were the entire pitch and the name was the advertisement. The freezes of 1894 and 1895 killed the trees, and the place carried on as a river suburb instead of a citrus colony.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
