New Chicago, the mill workers' resort town that kept the ambitious name
1908
New Chicago, Indiana
Platted in 1893 and incorporated in 1908, New Chicago never became any sort of Chicago. It filled up instead as a summer place for steelworkers from the mills a few miles north, and the trains started stopping in 1910. About two thousand people live there now, wedged between Hobart and Lake Station.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
