Edgemere becomes the bayside town for the Sparrows Point mill

The settlement took the name Edgemere in 1899, replacing Fitzell, at a meeting held on the Fitzell farm. That ground later held a Rheem plant and after that the record storage for Bethlehem Steel's Sparrows Point works. Most of Edgemere stayed farmland into the 1930s, which is late for land this close to Baltimore, and what filled it was the mill: it became one of the bayside towns where Sparrows Point workers lived, out at the end of the peninsula.
