The place started in the early 1920s as the settlement of Oakwood Heights, a subdivision laid out to put Ford River Rouge workers within reach of the gates. It took the name Melvindale from one of its developers, incorporated as a village in 1924 and became a city in 1933. Its fastest growth came in the 1940s as war production spilled out of Detroit.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
