The cotton mills and their company villages
1893
Olympia, Columbia
Clem Rutter, Rochester, Kent. · CC BY-SA 3.0 · Wikimedia Commons
Four huge cotton mills went up along the river, and the company built whole villages of identical houses around them. Olympia's mill had the largest weave room under one roof in the world. Workers' children were schooled by the company, and the last mill closed in 1996.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
