Jefferson Street and the small houses Gary's steelworkers bought
1922
Gary, Indiana
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Eighty one houses built between 1922 and 1945 on Gary's south side, nearly all of them from the American Small House Movement that put a compact architect drawn plan within reach of a mill wage. Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival and Craftsman details appear on houses otherwise almost identical in footprint. The district was added to the National Register in 2013.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
