The Jayuya uprising

Nationalists took the town and raised the Puerto Rican flag, which was then illegal to fly. The United States sent bombers and artillery against its own territory and burned much of Jayuya. Mainland papers reported it as an incident between Puerto Ricans. Martial law lasted days and arrests ran into the thousands.
