Lawson was called Slapfoot for its Saturday night dancing
1847
Lawson, Mesquite, Texas
Settlers reached this branch of South Mesquite Creek around 1847 and the place picked up the name Slapfoot, after the way the Saturday night dances went. It became Haught's Store when a post office opened in 1866, named for Mexican War veteran Samuel A. Haught, who also ran a gristmill, a cotton gin and a sawmill. The name eventually settled to Lawson, and Mesquite had annexed the whole community by 1982.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
