Julington Creek keeps the name of the Julianton plantation grant
1782
Julington Creek, Jacksonville, Florida

British governor Patrick Tonyn granted land along this creek to John Christian Ross, a Scot from a well connected East Florida family, and the water carried the plantation name Julianton until use wore it down to Julington. Ross had two daughters with a woman he held in slavery, freed her, and left Florida for Dominica in 1784. The creek now runs along the Duval and St. Johns county line, with boat ramps and a marina where the plantation landings used to be.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
