Ingalls builds the Navy at Pascagoula

A yard opened on the Singing River to build all-welded steel ships when riveting was still standard, and grew into the largest private employer in Mississippi. It has built destroyers, amphibious assault ships and cutters for eighty years, which is why a stretch of Gulf marsh is one of the few places in America still capable of building a warship.
