This is the residential district that grew up around Horace Mann School, 130 houses put up between 1919 and 1961 in Colonial Revival, Tudor, Spanish Colonial and plain bungalow. In September 1947 the school board finally applied its own desegregation policy and enrolled eighteen Black students at Horace Mann and Emerson. More than a thousand white students walked out and stayed out into October. The houses went on the National Register in 2013.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
