Heath had the first post office in what became Rockwall County

The settlement was called Black Hill, for the colour of the dirt, when it got a post office in 1849, the first anywhere in the land that later became Rockwall County. The office moved to Rockwall five years later and the place answered to Willow Springs until 1886, when it was renamed for John O. Heath, who had settled there in 1846. It stayed a small farming town until Lake Ray Hubbard and the metroplex arrived at its edge.
