Hazel Crest begins with a depot built to stop the milk train

Hazel Crest, Illinois

An Ohio newspaper editor named William McClintock bought eighty acres of farmland here in 1890 and built a depot so the local milk train would have a reason to stop, which is how the settlement got its connection to Chicago. The place had been called South Harvey. It was renamed in 1900 for the hazelnut bushes growing on the rise just south of town, and incorporated in 1912.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
