Harrison station, where the tubes reached the factory town
1911
Harrison, New Jersey
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
The Hudson and Manhattan tubes were pushed west to Newark in 1911, and this stop went in on the way. The platforms were shifted to their present spot beside the Northeast Corridor tracks in 1937, by which point a town of about fourteen thousand people was taking in tens of thousands of commuters a day for RCA, Otis Elevator, Crucible Steel and Worthington Pump. The tube trains outlasted almost all of those factories. The station was rebuilt from scratch between the late 2010s and the early 2020s.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
