Thomas Edison bought a full block of this small town across the Passaic in 1882 to make incandescent lamps. General Electric took the lamp works in 1892 and turned it over to radio tubes in 1918, and RCA bought the property in 1930 and ran it as its main receiving tube plant until 1976, turning out the valves inside American radios and televisions. Worthington Pump, Otis Elevator and Hartz Mountain all worked here too. William Howard Taft toured in 1912 and called Harrison a hive of industry, which the town trimmed into the slogan it still uses.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
