Goffle Brook Park, an Olmsted design dug by the WPA
1932
Goffle Road, Hawthorne, New Jersey
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Passaic County hired the Olmsted Brothers in 1927 to lay out a park system, and the firm that finished Frederick Law Olmsted's practice drew this one as a greenway following the brook through Hawthorne. The plans were prepared between 1930 and 1932 and the digging was done by men on federal relief work. The result is 103 acres of meadow, pond and path that also keeps the brook from being built over. It went on the National Register in 2002.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
