Riverbank Park, the Olmsted park a ballpark could not take
1910

The Olmsted Brothers laid out this narrow strip beside the Passaic on land bought in 1907, and it opened in 1910 as the smallest park in the Essex County system and one of the hardest used. In 1996 a plan appeared to demolish it for a minor league baseball stadium. Ironbound residents formed a group called SPARK, lost the referendum, and then beat the plan another way by getting the park onto the National Register in 1998. The ballpark was built somewhere else.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
