The United States Glass Company bought around 500 acres on the east bank of the Monongahela and set up the Glassport Land Company in 1894 to sell lots around its new tank works. The settlement had been called Pleasant Valley and belonged to Port Vue before that. The plant lasted until August 1963, when a storm dropped its water tower through the roof, and the borough has gone from 8,748 people in 1940 to 4,475 in 2020.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
