Mulholland Dam gets buried so Hollywood will stop worrying about it

William Mulholland completed this curved concrete dam above Hollywood in 1924 to impound the reservoir that now carries his name. When his St. Francis Dam failed in 1928 and killed hundreds of people downstream, residents living below this one demanded it be torn out. The water department dropped the reservoir level and, in 1933 and 1934, piled roughly 330,000 cubic yards of earth against the downstream face and planted it, so the dam now reads as an ordinary wooded slope.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
