Florence-Graham, sixty thousand people and no city hall

The name comes from two late nineteenth century rail stops, one at Florence Avenue and one at Graham, on the Southern Pacific and Pacific Electric lines running south out of Los Angeles. The census first counted it as an unincorporated place in 1960 and it has never incorporated since, so its roughly 62,000 residents are governed straight from the county with no city of their own. It sits directly north of Watts and took its density from the factory belt it grew up against. The county now signs it as Florence-Firestone, after the two boulevards that cross it.
