South Gate High School is rebuilt with New Deal money

The school opened in January 1930 to serve the families drawn to the factory belt southeast of Los Angeles. Federal Public Works Administration money paid to rebuild it across 1934 and 1935, while California was rewriting its school construction rules after the 1933 Long Beach earthquake brought down campuses across the district. It is the oldest high school in South Gate and still runs on the same block.
