Falcon Field trains British RAF cadets in the Arizona desert
1941
Mesa, Arizona
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Britain could not safely teach anyone to fly over Britain in 1941, so cadets were shipped to the Arizona desert instead. Falcon Field opened that September as No. 4 British Flying Training School and put more than 2,000 RAF cadets through it before the war ended. The government sold the field to Mesa for one dollar afterwards on condition it stay an airport, and Boeing now builds Apache helicopters on the same ground.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
