The RAF graves at Arcadia
1942
Oak Ridge Cemetery, Arcadia, Florida
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Twenty-three British cadets who died in training accidents at the area's wartime airfields are buried together in a corner of this cattle-town cemetery, under a Union Jack that has flown here since the 1940s. The Second World War moved RAF flight training to Florida for the weather. Every year the town still holds a memorial service for boys from Manchester and Kent who never got home.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
