Downtown Ossining and the Crescent

Ossining's business district curves through the crossroads on a bend locals call the Crescent, and it kept nearly everything: three bank buildings, four churches, the village hall, the old post office and the old high school, most of it late 1800s and early 1900s. It was listed in 1989 as one of the few Westchester downtowns whose social and physical development survived intact. The village took its present name in 1901, having been called Sing Sing after the prison.
