The Ridgeland-Oak Park Historic District, the other 1,558 buildings
1983
Oak Park, Illinois
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
Oak Park is known for its Frank Lloyd Wright cluster, and this district is nearly everything else: 539 acres and 1,558 contributing buildings, listed on the National Register in 1983. Wright barely appears in it. Only two of his buildings fall inside the line, Unity Temple and the George W. Smith House, and the Smith house is his only residence here. What it preserves is the ordinary turn of the century stock that the famous houses were dropped into.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
