Coppell takes its name from a New York railroad financier
1890
Coppell, Texas
Farmers settled around Grapevine Springs in the 1840s, on ground where Sam Houston's party camped during the 1843 treaty talks. The Cotton Belt opened a stop there in 1889 called Gibbs Station, for a former lieutenant governor of Texas. A year later the town changed its name again to Coppell, after George Coppell, the New York banker who held bonds on the railroad running through it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
