In 1914 the Harahan Land Company, a group of Illinois Central Railroad officials, bought the old Southern University tract and subdivided it for railway workers, river workers and truck farmers. The town is named for James T. Harahan, who ran the railroad from 1906 to 1911. It incorporated as a village in 1920 and as a city in 1953.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
