Bardwell's cotton gin moved to the railroad and the town followed
1907
Bardwell, Texas
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
John W. Bardwell put up a cotton gin in the early 1880s about a mile southwest of where the town sits now. When the Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway was routed through Ellis County in 1907 the gin was picked up and moved to the nearest track, and the houses, school and church went with it. Bardwell did well on cotton through the 1920s and had 625 people at the 2020 census.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
