North Bergen Yard, where freight for New York comes off the west shore line
1999
Tonnelle Avenue between 49th and 69th Streets, North Bergen, New Jersey

A freight yard and container terminal running beside Tonnelle Avenue, and the southern end of the CSX River Subdivision, the old West Shore route that keeps to the New Jersey and New York side of the Hudson all the way to Selkirk. Goods for the city are worked here rather than across the water. The Susquehanna runs a bulk transfer operation the length of the western edge. Since 1999 the yard has sat inside the North Jersey Shared Assets Area, the neutral ground left over when Conrail was split between CSX and Norfolk Southern.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
