Christ Episcopal Church, Joliet limestone lost to fire
1884
Van Buren Street, Joliet, Illinois
The congregation formed in 1865 as one of the first Episcopal parishes in Illinois and in 1884 built a Gothic Revival church out of the local limestone, with cantilevered stained glass and open stone arcades. The parish closed in 2004 and investors bought the building for a concert hall. Fire destroyed most of it in October 2006.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
