Chalfant, a whole borough in a sixth of a square mile
1914
Chalfant, Pennsylvania
Chalfant broke away from Wilkins Township and the court decreed it a borough on 14 December 1914. It covers about 0.16 square miles and counted 748 residents in 2020, and it still runs its own council. The name comes from Henry Chalfant, an innkeeper and the first postmaster in the Turtle Creek valley, who built up an estate of 102 acres here. Allegheny County is cut into 130 separate municipalities, more than any other county in the state, and this is one of the smallest pieces.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
