The congregation started in 1853 as a Cumberland Presbyterian church with twelve members. In 1902 it helped talk Trinity University into leaving Tehuacana for Waxahachie, and the students and faculty who followed filled the old building past its limit. C.D. Hill and Company designed the Late Gothic Revival replacement, built from 1917 and first used on Easter 1919. Trinity left for San Antonio in 1942 and the church it caused to be built is still in use.
