Cedar Bayou brickyards fired the clay that went to Galveston

Brick makers dug clay along this bayou and shipped the finished brick down the water to Galveston, Houston and Beaumont, a trade that ran from the 1840s until about 1916 and fed Galveston's building boom. The settlement around the works had a Methodist church by 1844 and a school by 1845. By 1890 it held about 200 people, three general stores, steam gristmills and cotton gins. Baytown annexed Cedar Bayou in 1955.
