Brickbottom, the flats Somerville put its factories on
1850

The low ground in the southeast corner of Somerville was dug for clay, built up as brickyards and then packed with factories, warehouses and rail yards on a tight grid. An elevated railway right of way still walls it off from the Inner Belt district next door. Rail maintenance shops, distribution sheds and transit offices hold the ground today, alongside the small pockets of housing that were never cleared.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
