The station opened for service on 10 October 1894 in a mission-derived style that was then barely a decade old as an American idea, and the builders finished the roof with eighteenth century tiles taken from Mission San Antonio de Padua at Jolon and from the San Mateo asistencia. California made it a state historical landmark in 1971 and it went on the National Register in 1978. Caltrain still stops here.
