Broadway Junction, where four railroads piled up on top of each other

Two elevated lines met here in 1884 and a third arrived in June 1885, crossing the Long Island Rail Road's Manhattan Beach branch and giving the place its first name, Manhattan Beach Crossing. What grew out of that is still one of the strangest structures in the subway, with three lines stacked on separate levels above a rail yard. A short connecting track between two of them was pulled out after four years because the forced transfer was blamed for children missing school.
