Bergen Generating Station, which sends power to New York under the river
1960

PSE&G built the plant on Overpeck Creek near its meeting with the Hackensack and commissioned it in 1960 as two 275 megawatt coal units, converted to heavy oil and gas in 1970 and running on natural gas now. Part of its output crosses back into New York City through the Hudson Project submarine cable, so a share of the city's electricity is made in the Meadowlands. Its cooling runs in a closed loop and does not draw the river down.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
