Kaiser Aluminum smelts at Chalmette on cheap Louisiana gas
1951

Kaiser Aluminum opened a smelter at Chalmette in 1951, drawn by a long natural gas contract that made the power cheap. At its height the plant employed around 2,700 people and ranked among the largest aluminium smelters in the world. The gas deal expired, the aluminium market slumped, and Kaiser closed the works in 1983. A 500 foot smokestack still stands over the ground it used.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
