Benedictine University, the Czech monks' college out in Lisle
1901
Lisle, Illinois
Benedictine monks of St Procopius Abbey opened a school in 1887 in Pilsen, the Czech neighbourhood on Chicago's west side, to educate the children of Bohemian immigrants. The college moved out to farmland in Lisle in 1901 and the abbey itself followed in 1914. Edward Dart designed the present abbey buildings in raw brick at the end of the 1960s, after the Vatican II reforms had changed what a monastery church was supposed to do.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
