Battery Bienvenue guards the bayou the British came up
1815
St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
British troops rowed in from Lake Borgne up Bayou Bienvenue in December 1814 and landed below New Orleans, which is why the battle was fought at Chalmette rather than at the city. The Army began this brick and earth battery at the fork of Bayou Bienvenue and Bayou Villere in 1815 so nobody could repeat the trick, and kept enlarging the plan for decades. It is a ruin now, reachable only by boat across the marsh.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
