Fort Wadsworth guards the Narrows

Fortified by the Dutch, held as the American redoubt Flagstaff Fort in 1776, then taken and enlarged by the British for the rest of the Revolution. Guns sat on this point above the Narrows almost without a break until the army left in 1994, which is the basis of its claim to be the longest garrisoned post in the country. The four tiered granite bulk of Battery Weed, finished in 1861, still stands at the waterline.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
