Barton Dam has powered Ann Arbor since 1912

Barton Dam, Huron River, Ann Arbor, Michigan
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
The dam went into service on the Huron in 1912 and is still generating, which puts it among the longest running hydroelectric stations in Michigan. The city of Ann Arbor owns both the barrage and the powerhouse and maintains them itself. A municipal utility that has been turning the same river for over a century is unusual in a state that mostly sold its small dams off or tore them out.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
