Geddes Dam makes power on the Huron for forty years
1919
Ann Arbor Township
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
John and Robert Geddes were milling this stretch of the Huron by the 1830s, and the hamlet of Geddesburg grew up around the water power. Detroit Edison replaced that logic with a 28 foot hydroelectric dam here in 1919 and ran it until 1959. The company sold this dam and three others to Ann Arbor in 1963 for 400,000 dollars, and the pond behind it is now the middle of Gallup Park, the busiest recreation ground in the city.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
