B.F. Jones Memorial Library, a steel fortune spent on limestone
1927
Aliquippa, PA
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The daughter of steel magnate Benjamin Franklin Jones paid for this library in her father's name, and it went up in Indiana limestone under a bronze roof. Inside are stained glass, plaster casts and carvings imitating the della Robbia workshops, an unusually lavish civic building for a town of mill housing. It is Renaissance Revival at small scale and it still runs as the public library.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
